Basic Techniques
Underneath a short explanation of the various parchment craft techniques.

Tracing

Tracing is the first important step in making a parchment project. The lines of the pattern are traced and act as the borders for embossing and later also for the colouring of your project.

Painting
There are two special Pergamano^® paints available: Pintura (soft glossy effect) and Pinta-Perla (mother-of-pearl effect). These quick-drying paints are very suitable for painting on parchment. Tinta ink can also be used for painting, but it gives a more mat effect. Furthermore Perga-Color (felt-tip pens) or Perga-Liners (pencils) can be used to color your design

Dorsing
Dorso crayons are used to apply colour on the back of the paper. After applying it you can spread the colour with a plug of cotton and a drop of Dorso oil. The structure of the crayons is such that the colour will be spread evenly over the parchment paper, thus changing its colour.

Perforating
Various Pergamano^® perforating tools can be used to make perforations in the parchment paper. The 4-needle perforating tool for example has four needles which are positioned in a square. For perforating the Felt Embossing Pad or the Perforating Pad Excellent are used.

Embossing
Embossing means creating a surface in relief’. The relief effect is created by stretching and rounding the surface of the parchment paper, creating concave and convex areas. Various Pergamano® embossing tools can be used to create this effect. The tools are available in different shapes and sizes. Since most of the times the purpose is to create relief on the front side of a project, the embossing is done on the back side of the paper. When using this technique, you will notice that the grey color of the parchment paper changes to a soft white.

Stippling
Stippling is making very quick perforating movements with the 1-needle perforating tool, while it does not entirely go through the parchment paper. The surface needs to be embossed first. For the best effect you distribute the dots close to each other and evenly over the surface. This technique results in small white dots on the front of the paper.

Cutting
Special pointed scissors are used to cut the holes made with the perforating tools. With a special cutting technique, the 4-hole perforations made with the 4-Needle tool, can be cut into crosses. These crosses, in combination with fine embossing, are the hallmark of Parchment Craft.
